The rat rod syndrome has no boundaries; it strikes youngsters, elders and it can appear in various parts of the globe. Russia is mostly known in our domain for giving birth to weird road rage videos and strange crashes, but there’s more than that.

Speaking about rat rods, we’re used to seeing them in a large gatherings of people on our side of the Atlantic, accompanied by hot girls and plenty of beer. But leaving stereotypes aside, these custom-made rides can be found in just about every culture, and this particular one makes no exception.

It started life as a VAZ 2106. This is a car born in the Soviet era, back in 1976, which stayed in production until 2011. In stock guise, the rear-wheel drive sedan has a 1.6-liter unit under its hood, connected to a 4-speed manual gearbox.

However, the final contraption was created using a custom frame, on top of which the aforementioned powertrain was added along with plenty of modifications, including twin-turbos (or so it’s claimed), for added power. The rear-wheel drive was maintained and extremely wide tires were added at the back.

The A-pillars were chopped, making room for a narrow windscreen and reminding us of the hot rods based on the Model T. Needless to say the engine remains visible, just like in all “self-respecting” rat  rods, while the interior was completely stripped.
