Uber is introducing a new feature in their app that enables drivers to specify where they’re heading in order to get matched with other trips on their way.
It all starts this week in the Bay Area, as drivers will now be able to set their destination twice a day in order to get matched only with riders traveling in the same direction. This way, Uber drivers can connect with users who simply need a ride home or need to run some errands around town, earning them fares along their own route.
This way, all Uber trip requests such as uberPOOL or uberX can be matched as long as it’s in the direction of the driver’s destination.
By the way, if this sounds really familiar to you it’s because Lyft already offers this service, connecting those who have a car with passengers who simply need a ride somewhere.
In order for drivers to set a destination, all they have to do is follow three quick steps. First they tap the clipboard icon in the top corner of the app, after which they select a saved location or search for a new address.
Last, they simply start driving toward the destination and Uber will automatically filter requests for trips along the way.
This feature will be tested in the Bay Area over the next couple of weeks, before making its way to other large markets in the near future.
