Over the years we have seen several interesting styling updates to the BMW i8, but things weren’t exactly complete without someone interfering with what’s underneath that futuristic body.
Meet Gabura Racing Technologies, a German tuner specialized in racing transmissions, which has created the most interesting variant of the green sports car yet. The Munich-based company stripped the i8, took a 4.4-liter V8 engine from a BMW M6 and added it under its hood.
The result is even more surprising as the powertrain was apparently updated by Alpina, to produce 200hp more than the standard unit, which means close to 800hp. To balance things, a six-speed sequential transmission was added in front of the rear axle.
There is no word on the total output sent to the wheels, or on the performance figures, but let’s not forget that the stock i8 needs just 4.4 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62mph) from a standstill, using its 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine and the electric motor, with approximately 360hp.
Gabura Racing still needs to complete the project, so full specs have yet to be released.
