After the Alfa Giulia gloated its 7:39 Nurburgring record lap-time, shining over BMW at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Bavarians (quite swiftly) responded.
The German car manufacturer just published a video depicting the M4 GTS registering a blistering-fast 7:27.88 lap time on the notorious track; we knew the model was fast, but this achievement puts in a different league.
In fact, the time registered is similar (with probably a few tenths of a second between them) to the ones registered by the Carrera RS, 458 Italia, and MP4-12C. To put it simply, is easier to list the cars faster than the M4 GTS than the ones slower.
Mind you, unlike the Alfa, the M4 GTS is a pure-bred, two-seater, track-munching monster, so the Giulia’s time remains a remarkable milestone, nonetheless. Still, the BMW is 11 seconds faster around the ‘Ring than the Giulia and a mind boggling 24 over the standard M4; but what can you expect from a 493hp (500PS) and 442 lb-ft (600Nm) monster, equipped with water injection on top.
Nevertheless, power isn’t everything, as Jörg Weidinger – the driver responsible for outstanding performance – stated in an interview:
“The BMW M4 GTS is indeed a thrilling overall package. This is not just because of its formidable engine but the three-way coilover suspension also plays an important role. The kinematics, tyres, aerodynamics, and the design of the ‘driver’s workplace’ all of these components are coordinated to work together perfectly.”
