BMW has published the first teaser image of a new concept that will be revealed at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES)next week.

The one-off previews what the future might look like in terms of interior and user interface, with the aim of further connecting the driver with the vehicle and the environment.

The Bavarian firm mentions the intuitive control of entertainment, communications and navigation with air gestures thanks to a new technology called the AirTouch, which allows the occupants to operate the display like a touchscreen without actually having to touch it.

This technology uses sensors to record the hand movements in the space between the mirror and the central console. We venture a guess that it’s a development of the BMW Gesture Control, found on the new 7-Series generation, used by passengers and drivers to adjust loudness or accept phone calls by the simple movements of a finger, but far more advanced as it allows for 3D gestures.

The AirTouch system has a button too, concealed on the rim of the steering wheel and easy to reach with the left thumb, along with a second button, positioned on the side sill in the door area, for the front passenger.

Further details on the Vision Car Concept will be released soon, as the CES takes place between January 6 and 9 in Las Vegas.
