Andy House, the man who drove a 2006 Bugatti Veyron into a lake in November 2009, will have to serve one year and one day in a federal prison.
On November 11 2009, House crashed his Veyron into a lake in Texas. The following day, he called the vehicle’s insurance company and filed a claim worth $2.2 million for the French hypercar.
At first, House claimed he crashed the Veyron after reaching for his cell phone. He then changed his story, stating that a pelican had flown in front of the car.
However, it all unraveled for him when footage emerged of the moment the car was driven into the lake by another motorist driving alongside him in La Marque, Texas. Moreover, after watching the video it emerged that, to ensure the car was a total write-off, House purposefully left the engine running after ditching it in the lake.
Alongside serving 366 days in prison, he will have to pay back $600,000 to Philadelphia Indemnity, a local insurance company.
