There’s a possibility that a wagon variant of the Buick Regal could launch in the United States after it emerged the company has trademarked ‘Tourx’ and ‘Regal Tourx’.
The current Buick Regal is essentially identical to the Opel Insignia, albeit with Buick badges. While the Insignia is available as a wagon, in the form of the Sports Tourer variant, the Buick Regal isn’t offered in such a body style.
Recently however, Buick filed trademarks for ‘Tourx’ and ‘Regal Tourx’ with the US Patent and Trademark Office for “Motor land vehicles, namely automobiles”.
It is assumed that the ‘Tour’ in both those trademarks refers to the wagon body style while the ‘x’ stands for all-wheel drive. If that is the case, then there’s a possibility that rather than offering the Insignia Sports Tourer in the U.S. as a new Buick Regal model, General Motors may bring over and re-badge the Insignia Country Tourer, essentially a more off-road focused version of the Sports Tourer.
Of course, the simple fact that Buick has trademarked these names is far from conclusive evidence that any new versions of the Regal are in the works. After all, automakers continually trademark names simply to protect them rather than with the intention of ever using them.
