After Jenson Button renewed is F1 contract with McLaren Honda, it was obvious that the racing driver ruled himself out of being a presenter on Top Gear. So, with the shooting for the show currently in the works, the producers had to look elsewhere.
Mind you, in order to remain competent in the business and ahead of the game, the motoring show should feature hosts that petrolheads can relate to. That said, The Sun is reporting that German racing driver Sabine Schmitz and motoring journalist Chris Harris have been picked up to be Evans’ sidekicks.
Wait, it gets better, as the former Formula 1 racing driver David Coulthard has allegedly also been drawn into the project. So, with this possible motoring-superstar line-up, things can’t go very wrong for the revamped show, right? Well, even if it appears so, an insider for the magazine apparently wasn’t too keen on the selection, stating:
“Sabine and Chris are virtually unknown to the wider public and David isn’t the most charismatic driver.”
Truth be told, chemistry is very important between the presenters and the entire cast, and it appears that Top Gear heads to a format reminiscent of Fifth Gear.
On a side note, Sabine Schmitz actually starred in several Top Gear episodes a few years back, as the “Queen of Nurburgring” often found herself trapped in Clarkson’s shenanigans. Chris Harris, on the other hand, is one of the most respected journalists, coming with a ton of experience from his previous work at Drive, Evo, Autocar and Jalopnik.
