Even though both of these drivers probably ended up having a really bad day, it’s the person behind the wheel of the Hyundai who should obviously rethink the way he approaches driving in general.
As far as we know, this might have just as simply been a case of misjudging the distance and speed of that incoming Mercedes-Benz R-Class.
We can’t know for sure if the driver of the Hyundai didn’t pay attention, especially since it looks like he’s eager to get on the main road as quick as possible.
Unfortunately, that didn’t go as planned. The Mercedes might have been going a bit too fast as well (it certainly had a lot of trouble slowing down, especially in those weather conditions), but then again, the R-Class driver didn’t have any reason to assume that another car would be jumping out in front of him for no apparent reason other than to ruin two Christmases with one boneheaded decision.
Here’s another problem though. One should always assume the worst when behind the wheel and be constantly prepared for somebody to make an ill-advised move in traffic.
Luckily, the impact happened just beyond the driver’s side door, though that still didn’t stop the Hyundai from going off like a figure skater. It was obviously pretty slippery out there.
As for injuries, both drivers were probably alright – the one in the Mercedes certainly seemed so, and we hope the Elantra one was perfectly OK, too.
