In an effort to ensure the Volkswagen Amarok remains a viable alternative to the likes of the Nissan Navara and Toyota Hilux, the German automaker is said to be developing a facelifted model for a launch in 2016.

Australian publication Car Advice suggests that VW won’t simply refresh the exterior of the 2017 Amarok but will also work extensively on improving the interior.

For example, it is reported that a revised infotainment system will be installed complete with compatibility for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

It is also reported that the interior of the 2017 model year will potentially include a number of new trim options as well as additional active safety equipment.

Visually, it doesn’t seem as though Volkswagen is planning anything radical instead opting to largely retain the brutish yet sophisticated looking exterior. With that being said, we do expect to see some changes including slightly revised front and rear fascias.

Similarly, no dramatic engine changes are expected with small boosts in performance and fuel efficiency for the 2.0-litre biturbo diesel all that’s predicted.
