Good news for Aussie Ford fans as the blue oval will bring back the Sprint badge for a limited edition of the Falcon.
The automaker has released the first teaser image of the upcoming model, which reveals the Sprint logo added to the front fender. The special edition Falcons will be available with the 4.0-liter straight-six and the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engines, connected to either a six-speed automatic transmission in the XR6 or a choice of automatic / manual gearbox in the XR8.
Ford might be keeping the full specifications in the shadows at the moment, but it confirmed that the new Sprints will be more powerful than the standard XR6 (362hp) and XR8 (450hp). The Falcon Sprint editions will also benefit from new wheels, upgraded brakes, special badging, a tweaked interior and several other goodies that should appeal to the company’s fans, and not only.
“The Falcon XR Sprint is aligned to the understated look of our notable historic performance Falcons; they will be styled with design and dynamic influences that are distinctly different in feel, presence and execution“, said Graeme Whickman, the Ford Australia President and CEO.
The Sprint name pays tribute to the original Falcon, which was sold in North America in the ’60s. The badge was used on the Australian Falcon, for the first time, back in 1993, which was created in more than 300 units, and the modern Falcon XR Sprint Edition will be offered in a limited number as well.
More details on the special Falcon XR Sprint series will be released in early 2016. We’ll remind you that Ford Australia will end its local production in 2016.
