General Motors has announced it will invest over $356 million into its Michigan factories in Flint, Saginaw and Grand Rapids.

The vast majority of the investment, $263 million of it in fact, will be spent at the Flint Engine Operations plant for an undisclosed future engine program. The massive investment will also help retain all 410 hourly and salaried employees at the plant.

Meanwhile, $50 million will be invested at Saginaw Metal Casting Operations for new driveline components with 68 jobs being retained there. Finally, the Grand Rapides Operations facility will enjoy $43.35 million in additional funds for powertrain components with 15 jobs being retained and 55 added.

It isn’t yet clear what GM models will benefit from these investments but the automaker is proud to proclaim that since 2009, it has invested over $9 billion in Michigan. A further $1 billion in investments by 2030 will also benefit Michigan’s economy.

Michigan governor Rick Snyder said “Today’s announcement that it is investing in Saginaw, Flint and Grand Rapids proves the company wants to retain a strong presence in Michigan.”
