Maserati has issued a recall for some of its models in the United States due to faulty door latches.
The cars affected are 135 2016MY GranTurismo and GranCabrio models manufactured between June 24, 2015 and September 2, 2015. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), said vehicles have “passenger side door latch components that were not heat treated”.
Due to this issue, the door latch could fail in the event of a crash therefore allowing the door to open thus increasing the risk of injury to the passenger. To resolve the issue, Maserati will notify owners, and their local dealerships will replace the passenger side door latch assembly for free.
While the Maserati GranTurismo and its convertible sibling remain quite appealing to the eye, they are aging having been introduced back in 2007 and account for less than 10 per cent of Maserati’s sales. Nevertheless, the next-generation GranTurismo is set to be released in 2018 and it is tipped to become less performance focused to make way for the sporty Maserati Alfieri arriving in 2017 or 2018.
