Just two weeks after the McLaren 675LT Spider was revealed to the world, it has been confirmed that all 500 examples of the British firm’s most hardcore convertible have been sold.
The initial launch of the 675LT Spider did come as somewhat of a surprise after McLaren categorically ruled out the possibility of a droptop being offered after the 675LT Coupe’s unveiling. On the back of customer demand however, the automaker switched its tune and commissioned 500 675LT Spiders to be produced, adding to the 500 hardtop variants being created.
Of course, while the automotive press only became aware of the 675LT Spider a couple of weeks ago, loyal customers knew about the car for months and have been placing orders ever since. It’s therefore not all that surprising how quickly all examples have been snapped up. Additionally, the increasing value of 675LT Coupes means the Spider will also become a solid investment in the coming years.
The convertible is essentially identical to the coupe albeit for its folding hardtop. That means it utilises a twin-turbocharged V8 engine displacing 3.8-litres and pumping out 666 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. When combined with a weight saving of 100 kg over the 650S Spider, the more track-focused version will accelerate to 62 mph in a blistering 2.9 seconds despite its limiting factor of being rear-wheel drive.
