The German automaker revealed the latest addition to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class lineup, the range-topping S65 AMG Cabriolet.
Joining the S500 and S64 AMG 4MATIC, the new S65 AMG Cabrio is using a 6.0-liter bi-turbo V12 engine, rated at 630PS (621hp) and 1,000Nm (738lb-ft) of torque, allowing the open top model to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 4.1sec and up to an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h (155mph).
Mercedes says that the NEDC combined fuel consumption stands at 12.0 lt/100km (19.6mpg US) and CO2 emissions at 272g/km. Power is directed to the rear wheels via the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC transmission, and the S65 comes with 20-inch rims wrapped in 255/40 front and 285/35 rear tires as standard.
The model is distinguished by the “twin blade” radiator grille, the trim strip on the “A-wing”, the two chromed tailpipes on the AMG sports exhaust system and the “V12 BITURBO” lettering on the wings.
The new Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet has a 3-layered acoustic fabric soft top, which takes 17 seconds to open or close at speeds up to 50 km/h (31mph) and is available in black, dark blue, beige or dark red.
On the inside, customers get the sports seats in designo Exclusive Nappa leather with electric adjustment, climatisation and memory functions, DINAMICA microfiber-finished soft top interior lining, AIRCAP and AIRSCARF systems, heated armrests, heated rear seats, intelligent climate control and a three-spoke sport steering wheel with paddles wrapped in Nappa leather.
The top version of the Cabriolet range also gets an AMG instrument cluster, red/silver needles, a speedometer going all the way up to 360km/h (224mph), “V12 BITURBO” lettering on the rev counter, a head-up display, a touchpad to control the navigation, radio, telephone and other features of the infotainment system, a 360-degree camera, a Burmester high-end sound system and the Active Parking Assist with Parktronic on the standard equipment list .
The Keyless-Go and Seat Comfort packages are also included in the price, while the Driving Assistance Package Plus comes at no extra charge and it features the Distronic Plus with Steering Assist and Sop&Go Pilot, Pre-Safe Brake, Bas Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist and Pre-Safe Plus safety systems.
Mercedes will start taking orders for the new S65 AMG Cabrio from April 4, 2016, and the high-performance drop-top will reach dealerships one month later. No pricing details have been announced so far.
