The next E-Class sedan may be scheduled to be unveiled in less than a month, at the 2016 NAIAS, but Mercedes is still conducting various tests.
The latest spy video with the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class shows a prototype on the track. The camouflaged model was driven on a special surface, for what is believed to be, a noise test, which examines the soundproof materials.
Previous images revealed the exterior design of the executive sedan, which follows the styling lines of the C-Class and S-Class. While it is still too early to talk about its powertrains, the same cannot be said about the cabin that has already been revealed in official imagery.
Future buyers of the new E-Class generation will get to enjoy two 12.3-inch displays, for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, but choosing the entry-level version will drop them in favor of two analogue dials, separated by a 7-inch screen, and an 8.4-inch central display. Other goodies found inside include the ambient lighting, the optional Burmester 3D surround sound system, new seat designs, wood trims and others.
Mercedes-Benz will expand the E-Class lineup and, besides a four-door model, an Estate will follow along with a two-door coupe and a two-door convertible. The automaker will also offer a stretched-version, reportedly aimed towards the Chinese market, which will come close in terms of length to its larger sister, the S-Class.
