The new Jaguar XF is taking full advantage of the company’s new modular architecture shared with the smaller XE, dropping its weight up to 190kg (419lbs) when compared with its predecessor.

It may not look that different than the old XF, but the new model offers more space for the occupants and Jaguar claims significant gains in handling and fuel efficiency, also thanks to the new Ingenium family of engines.

The four-cylinder diesel -which is expected to be the best-seller of the range in Europe- is available in two power versions, 163PS and 180PS and can be ordered with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Jaguar says that the 163ps version is 80kg (176 lbs) lighter than its closer competitor.

Other highlights include the company’s new more responsive infotainment system and the optional ‘Configurable Dynamics’ system that allows the driver to switch between modes for the dampers, steering, engine response and the automatic gearbox.

The new Jaguar XF may look a lot like the car it replaces but offers one of the best road manners in the segment and remains elegant without being too flashy. CarBuyer reviews the diesel 180PS model and points out the good and the bad, letting us know if the new big cat can worry zee Germans or not.
