This shocking surveillance cam footage shows an Opel Astra from two generations ago losing control and flying into a parked Daewoo Matiz/Chevrolet Spark.
Honestly, it matters very little what make or model that parked car was. The stupefying thing about this video is how that Astra managed to hit the pole, the sidewalk and the parked car at just the right angle, causing it to twist at least 180-degrees in mid air, before landing a few meters clear of the crash site.
This is pretty brutal to watch, and we certainly hope the driver is alright. The fact that the crash wasn’t “straight on” and the Opel sort of hit the parked car right in its B-Pillar area while in mid-air, might have helped slow down the momentum.
So what can cause somebody to lose control of their vehicle in such a way? First culprit is always excessive speed. The roads were obviously very wet and the driver of that Astra had to have been going way over the speed limit in order for the car to lose so much grip.
You can see that as the Astra is approaching the small intersection, it’s already skidding across the asphalt. But that’s about as much as we can tell from afar.
If we were to start assuming things, we could point towards irresponsible driving, or drunk driving or a combination of both – a number of things could have gone wrong. Perhaps the driver wasn’t even paying attention.
Also, as one of the users points out in the video’s comments section, the driver may have been ejected from the car as it’s spinning around, around the 26-second mark.
