The smallest member of the Opel family has gained two new features, the IntelliLink system and the OnStar, at least in its home market – for now.
The R4.0 IntelliLink can integrate smartphone functionalities with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and is compatible with devices from Android 5.0 Lollipop and Apple iOS 7.1 ownwards.
The the OnStar system is providing internet connection and is free of charge in the first 12 months after registration.
The Opel infotainment technology connects the smartphone interface to the 7-inch display and allows drivers to make calls from the touch screen or by voice, via Siri (on iPhones).
Moreover, one can access navigation apps like Google Map or Apple Maps, and when a text message from services such as WhatsApp or Skype pops up on the IntelliLink screen it’s automatically read out loud, allowing the driver to focus on the road.
The automaker also mentions the full list of apps available for the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The OnStar hardware costs €490 on the Edition trim and is standard on the Innovation, while the IntelliLink starts from €350.
Opel’s mini car starts from €9,500 on its local market and can seat up to five adults in its 3.68-meter long five-door body.
