Before Group B rallying was outlawed, the high-paced series brought together some of the world’s most talented drivers, most powerful and bonkers cars ever created and treacherous rally stages.
Seeing videos of Group B rally cars roaring past fans just inches away at well over 100 mph is truly extraordinary.
Compared to Group B, modern-day rallying is much safer with limits not only placed on the cars but the access of spectators also being restricted. That doesn’t mean however rallying is safe as it continually carries with it some inherent risks. At a recent rally in Spain, spectators discovered just what one of those risks can be.
During a shakedown stage of the rally, a Porsche 911 almost speared straight into a packed crowd after becoming unsettled after flying over a crest in the road far too fast. The German sports car clearly jumps way to high, lands heavily and heads directly towards fans in the neighboring shrubbery.
Thankfully, the driver managed to maintain control of the car but only just avoided disaster.
