It is no secret that with the ongoing expansion of Jaguar, the company wants to establish itself as a true rival to BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz.
While sales results will be the decisive factor in whether or not that objective is achieved, the future is looking bright thanks to the introduction of many new models, including the entry-level XE sedan, the latest-generation XF and the sleek F-Pace crossover.
While Jaguar offers alternatives to many cars from the German trio, it’s range certainly isn’t as wide. One of the segments it has yet to tap into is that of luxury compact sedans, currently occupied by the Mercedes-Benz CLA, Audi A3 Sedan and, soon, the much-rumoured front-wheel drive BMW 1-Series Sedan.
It isn’t clear whether or not Jaguar ever intends to enter this class. If it does, there’s a good chance it would look very similar to the so-called ‘XG’ presented here by Theophilus Chin. Taking design inspiration from the XE in a smaller package, the small sedan certainly looks quite good and manages to maintain the prestige feel of other Jaguar models.
According to Jaguar’s current schedule, though, this won’t happen any time soon as it is already busy developing a second crossover, smaller in size than the F-Pace and potentially available with an electric powertrain. Given the rapidly growing crossover/SUV market, it makes sense that such a model has priority.
