After refreshing the standard versions of their 500 hatch earlier this year, Fiat is preparing to apply a facelift to the Abarth-branded performance version.
Don’t expect any massive changes on the styling front, with the 500 Abarth to add new front and rear bumper designs to the other exterior changes we saw on the regular 500 and which include more slanted headlamps with available Xenon units, plus LED fixtures for the daytime running lights and the tail lamps. The Abarth model should ride on a new set of wheels as well.
Like the rest of the range, the 500 Abarth will gain an updated dashboard layout designed around FCA’s new five-inch ‘Uconnect’ infotainment screen, along with better materials and soundproofing, while other model-specific modifications will include a new sports steering wheel.
Some sources suggest that Fiat will tweak the Abarth’s 1.4-liter turbocharged unit, which is currently offered in different outputs pushing up to 190hp in its top configuration, giving it a small boost.
Fiat could whip the covers off the updated Abarth 500 as early as March next year at the Geneva Motor Show.
