No, it is not a typo, a track-only supercar that is actually too loud to be driven on the circuit – the Spa Francorchamps in this case.
Developing a track beast from scratch, using an extremely limited production supercar like the Ferrari Enzo, is not easy, but keep in mind that we are talking about the “prancing horse”, and we all know what it’s capable of.
Nevertheless, what is the point of a track-only vehicle that cannot be driven on the track because it’s just too noisy? Well, it may not make sense for a petrol head, but remember that there are people living near race tracks and, as weird as it may sound – pun intended, they aren’t necessarily car fans, but this isn’t your average car to start with.
We’ve talked about it in the past, as it was updated by Edo Competition and, in an unfortunate incident, it ended up taking a bath in the Atlantic Ocean.
With all the salt water removed and damaged parts replaced, the exclusive FXX’s naturally aspirated V12 was reportedly pushed to more than 950hp, with its rev limit raised to 10,000rpm. Besides the impressive performance, the machine sounds brilliant and it’s producing no less than 142 decibels.
On a quick search over the web, we found out that 120 decibels are equivalent to an amplified rock concert in front of the speakers and 140 decibels are equivalent to a gunshot blast, an air raid siren or a jet plane taking off at close range (~200feet), so we can only imagine what it’s like to stand near this roaring beast.
