If you can’t bring yourself to drive carefully and look after yourself and other fellow traffic participants, the least you could do is not make a mockery out of a very serious situation.

We all know that being “caught out” while overtaking someone can happen to just about anyone who’s not paying as much attention as he or she should. People misjudge distances, they misjudge what their vehicle is capable of and before they know it, they’re face to face with the incoming traffic.

If you’ve already messed up and you’re in that situation, the best thing you can do is slam on the brakes, unless the car you’re overtaking is willing to help you out and slow down so that you can slot back in.

The point is, it’s better to brake than to actually overtake the incoming car by literally going off-road and putting yourself in a position where lots of things could happen that aren’t in your control anymore. This Saab 9-5 driver apparently thought it was a good idea to do just that, as if he was filming a chase sequence in a Hollywood action flick.

Unless you’re positive as to what that side of the road is like to drive on (who would be?), doing what he did can lead to you losing control of the car, or hitting who knows what else might be on the side of the road right at that moment. Besides, the driver of the car that’s coming your way might be inclined to do the same thing if he freaks out.

Oh and this guy actually had plenty of time to take his behind back to his own lane but as far as we can tell from the footage, that was never his intention.
