As the first-generation Audi R8 shares its naturally-aspirated 5,2-litre V10 engine relatively unchanged with the Lamborghini Gallardo, the German supercar has proven quite popular to twin-turbocharging, just like its Italian brother.
Twin-turbo Lamborghini Gallardos have become know globally as some of the world’s fastest cars as they routinely pump out over 2000 hp and often dominate ½ mile and 1 mile drag racing events. Well the R8 can be just as fast and at the recent WannaGoFast standing half mile event in the U.S., a burnt orange Audi R8 GT set a new world record for an R8.
With a twin-turbo kit from Underground Racing, this R8 managed to rocket to an incredible 235 mph (378km/h) in just half a mile to not only make it the world’s fastest R8, but meaning it is also faster than any twin-turbo Gallardo.
As a matter of fact, it is only 3 mph down on the half mile world record holder, recently captured by a twin-turbocharged Lamborghini Huracan.
