As the fallout from the Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal and recalls continues, the German conglomerate is planning a dramatic image change.
According to Reuters, this will include ditching its long-standing ‘Das Auto’ advertising slogan because senior VW Group managers thought it was too pretentious.
Translating to “The Car”, it is suggested the decision was made in an effort to project a more “humble” image. A spokesman for VW wouldn’t comment on whether Das Auto will be erased altogether, but did confirm it won’t be used in the brand’s future advertising campaigns.
Apparently, he also revealed what it will be replaced with: “Wherever our logo appears in future, it will be backed by the new brand slogan ‘Volkswagen’. The slogan will be rolled out in stages across the world”.
There you have it. Volkswagen. Humble? Perhaps. Creative? Well…
