An unpredictable child, an 18-ton truck, and a real-life playground; this can only go very well.
To prove how tough, durable and sturdy the FMX truck is, the Swedish company gave four-year-old Sophie complete control over a Day Cab, Dumper Body, I-Shift, Chassis Extra High, 8×6 all-wheel-drive 18-ton truck, to see how it copes “in the most demanding environments”.
So, the video entitled “Look who’s driving” sees the little girl “test” the truck and its functions over an improvised course filled with many hazardous obstacles. As you’d expect Sophie’s…driving skills aren’t that great (mainly because she’s a 4-year old), but we’ve seen worse in some Russian traffic videos on the internet. Still, it doesn’t take too long for the first collision to happen, and it gets worse and funnier as the video progresses.
With the hand-to-eye coordination of a drunken truck driver, she manages to dent, smash and even roll-over the entire rig, in an attempt to – unwillingly – stress the vehicle, as Vice President Volvo Trucks Brand, puts it:
“To show what the truck can do, we want to give it a real challenge. What test driver is more reckless than an unpredictable four-year-old?”
Well, Mr. Brand, you’d be surprise, but you do have a point. Good thing the Volvo is build tough, putting its automatic traction control, sturdy front corner, skid plate, body-in-white cabin design that prevents occupants from injury to the (almost) supreme ability test in an attempt to correct the maneuvers made by the child.
The video is fun and we had fun watching it, but it doesn’t seem very genuine.
