Amid the “dieselgate” scandal, Volkswagen’s world-wide car sales slipped for the first time in more than a decade.
From January to November 2015, the VW Brand delivered 5,335,700 million vehicle, worldwide, compared to 5,589,100 cars shipped between January and November last year, which represent a 4.5 percent decrease. The biggest declines come from Russia, Brazil, South America and Central & Eastern Europe, in this order.
Western European sales were up by 5.3 percent, with 1,319,900 cars delivered, with Germany posting a 4 percent increase to 534,400 units. VW says it’s pleased, especially given the circumstances:
“Western Europe has traditionally been one of the cornerstones of the brand. This is why we are particularly pleased to note that our customers are remaining loyal to us, especially in this phase which is so challenging for the company“, said Jurgen Stackmann, VW’s Brand Board of Management member.
In North America, deliveries of Volkswagen-branded passenger cars rose by 1.1 percent compared to the same period of 2014, while in the Asia-Pacific and Chinese markets they dropped by 4.8 percent and 5.1 percent, respectively.
