Yesterday, it was confirmed that at next month’s CES 2016 held in Las Vegas, Volkswagen will unveil a brand new all-electric concept car on January 5th.
While no further official details about the car have been released, reports from Autocar have surfaced indicating that it could take the form of a new VW Microbus concept.
Apparently, the Microbus concept debuting at CES 2016 will be created as a preview for a production-spec variant to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March. It is claimed that thanks to an advanced new electric powertrain incorporating high-capacity lithium-ion batteries, it could offer a range up to 500 km.
While the initial concept will be underpinned by an electric powertrain, it is claimed that the production model will be offered with a number of more conventional engines, including four-cylinder powertrains driven by petrol and diesel. Given the point that Volkswagen is developing a new electric powerplant for the CES 2016 concept, it seems inevitable that such a system will also be offered on the production car.
There’s a possibility that the new VW Microbus will be produced at the German marque’s factory in Puebla, Mexico.
