Driving is not what it used to be and the new technologies implemented keep occupants, pedestrians and other traffic participants safer than ever.
However, what works for most doesn’t work for some, as a driver found out the hard way.
57-year old Cathy Bernstein reportedly hit a truck, then a van, with her car, a Ford. She fled the scene moments after, but the vehicle automatically contacted the emergency services, informing them about the crash.
The system uses a series of sensors that monitor sudden changes in movement or if the airbags are deployed and contacts the authorities, informing the make and model of the car and the time and location of the accident.
The technology also allows the driver to make contact and provide further details, but the woman denied the whole incident.
“Everything was fine“, told Bernstein to the Port St. Lucie police, just moments before the dispatcher said “ok, but your car called in saying you’d been involved in an accident. It doesn’t do that for no reason. Did you leave the scene of an accident?” “No, I would never do that“, the 57-year old replied.
According to TNW, Bernstein was arrested in Florida and taken to jail for fleeing the scene of an accident, but she has yet to appear in court.
