Callaway may be working on a supercharger kit for the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS but Redline Motorsports have beaten them to the punch by previewing its twin-turbo kit for the muscle car turned sports car.
Power from the typically naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V8 engine sits at 455 hp in the Camaro SS, the same as the Corvette Stingray. With the installation of two turbochargers and some software changes, Redline has already managed to extract 657 hp and 633 lb-ft from the engine. Pivotally, those figures are at the wheels meaning at the crank, this Camaro SS is pushing out well over 700 hp.
While we can imagine most Camaro owners would be more than happy with 700 horses beneath their right pedal, the Florida-based tuner is promising even more upgrades. As a matter of fact, this initial package is just Stage One with two additional packages also in the works.
Even though the new Camaro SS has proven itself to be a true performer, the American automaker has commenced testing on a new ZL1 variant. That model will likely utilize the same 6.2-liter supercharged V8 as the Corvette Z06 and Cadillac CTS-V. In those models, power ranges between 640-650 hp and 630-650 lb-ft of torque and for the new ZL1, figures around those can be expected.
Beyond its more powerful engine, the ZL1 will be distinguished from lesser models thanks to a bold new bodykit, enlarged grilles, air intakes and beefed up brakes.
