Citroen has made a wide array of fine automobiles over the years, but the C6 model wasn’t exactly one of them.
Even so, it is allegedly thinking of resurrecting the nameplate, according to a report on French forum Worldscoop,
The project, which is code-named X81, will reportedly be based on PSA’s EMP2 platform and use 1.8 and 2.0-litre turbocharged engines.
The new C6 design could be influenced by the Metropolis Concept that was revealed in 2010 in Shanghai, toned down for production and sporting a shorter wheelbase.
For the time being, the C6 will be revived for the Chinese market only, while the production model will be manufactured by the Dongfeng-PSA joint venture in China. Its launch is scheduled for the third quarter of the year, with sales beginning before the end of 2016.
At the same time, the C6 nameplate was already reported as being on Citroen’s agenda and launched under the DS brand. It, too, will be built on the EMP2 structure, but it remains unknown whether it will be a version of the one offered in China or a different vehicle.
