As with previous years, Chevrolet has confirmed that the first unit of the 2016 COPO Camaro drag car will be auctioned off for charity.
The car with the 2016COPO001 serial number will cross the auction block at Barrett-Jackson’s Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. Last year, this very unit was put on display at SEMA and is painted in Red Hot and includes a number of black graphics.
While the 2016 COPO Camaro can be installed with supercharged 5.7-liter, 6.2-liter and 7.0-liter V8 engines, this particular unit has the optional 350 racing engine joined with a 2.9-liter Whipple supercharger. Mated to the potent engine is a THM-350 automatic transmission.
Also included in this example are a chrome-moly roll cage, racing seats with the signature of Funny Car driver Courtney Force and five-point safety harnesses.
All proceeds from the auction will benefit United Way, the world’s largest privately-funded nonprofit charity with over 2.6 million volunteers that help to improve the quality of life for recipients.
Speaking about the upcoming auction, Courtney Force said “I was extremely honored to work with Chevrolet and help design the 2016 COPO Camaro. The bright red color and the signature slash marks towards the back on the car bring a part of my Traxxas Chevrolet Camaro Funny Car to the COPO Camaro, which I think is really cool. The proceeds from this car go to a great cause and benefit the United Way, so it’s an awesome project all around.”
