In its continued efforts to remain at the forefront of the industry, Ford has just announced its brand new car share leasing programme in the United States.
Initially being rolled out across Austin, Texas as a pilot, Ford Credit Link is catered towards budding Ford owners who don’t need access to their vehicle full time. With the programme, groups of three to six-people can collectively lease a brand new Ford and divide up all of the ownership costs.
Ford Credit Link has been created with people such as friends, co-workers and college students in mind. Through the programme, members of group’s which lease out a Ford model are able to communicate with each other through a custom smartphone app. The application will allow them to reserve drive time, keep up with the vehicle’s maintenance schedule and check the car’s status. Payments can also be made through the app.
Three Austin dealerships are currently offering the 24-month group leases; Covert Ford, Leif Johnson Ford and Maxwell Ford.
Ford Credit executive vice president of marketing and sales David McClelland said “People already are sharing everything – from books to homes. We’re seeing the potential for a shift from a single consumer paying for a single vehicle to several people sharing costs and benefits. Ford Credit Link makes Ford vehicles more readily available to people who may not want or need their own vehicle but have mobility requirements that must be met.”
