The Ford Mustang has once again become the most popular American muscle car, taking the crown from the Chevrolet Camaro.
Throughout 2015, Ford managed to shift a total of 122,345 sixth-generation Mustangs, representing a 48 per cent jump over 2014. By comparison, sales of the Chevrolet Camaro topped out at just 77,502, a fall of 10 per cent compared to 2014.
As per usual, the Dodge Challenger sits at third spot with 51,462 sales which actually happens to be a record for the car.
From 2010-2014, the Camaro was American’s most popular muscle car, but with the introduction of the latest-gen Mustang, it’s not surprising that it’s proved more popular. However, it isn’t really fair to compare to latest Mustang with the outgoing, fifth-generation Camaro which was recently replaced. As a result, 2016 will be the real test to see which of the sixth-gen Mustang and sixth-gen Camaro are most popular.
Sales results for the Camaro are actually the lowest they’ve been since the car was reintroduced in 2009 and shows that buyers are happy to wait for the new model.
