Supercar manufacturers and high-end watch companies have long been forming partnerships, and Ferrari was one of the first.
Hublot is Maranello’s current associate and it has just unveiled the MP-05 ‘LaFerrari‘ Sapphire timepiece as a tribute to the Italian hypercar.
The watchmaker originally introduced its MP-05 in 2013, but now it has been improved and, as the name suggests, now uses sapphire in its construction.
Specifically, the case middle is now made from sapphire consisting of 7 individual components expertly craved from seven separate blocks of sapphire. This piece alone takes over 600 hours of work to create.
Apart from its sapphire parts, it includes 637 individual components and a suspended vertical tourbillon. The MP-05 ‘LaFerrari’s Sapphire is also special in the way it displays the time, ditching typical hands in favor of four distinct clear cylinders displaying the seconds, hours, minutes and power reserve.
Production will be limited to just 20 pieces and, so far, pricing details haven’t been released, but expect something in high-five of even six-digit numbers.
