Almost a year after its premiere in Geneva, the first official onboard driving footagee of the revolutionary Regera has been released by the Swedish automaker.
What makes the Regera so special is its powertrain. It combines a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 with three electric motors for a massive output of 1,500 hp and 1,475 lb-ft of torque.
Those figures alone are unprecedented in the industry, but what makes the Regera even more unique is the lack of an actual gearbox.
Instead, it has a direct drive system with only one gear! Plus, while electric cars often have limited top speeds, the hybrid powertrain of the Regera will allow it to reach speeds exceeding 250 mph.
The system works through a locking hydraulic couple between the crankshaft and propshaft. With a fixed final ratio, the car is able to move forward some 50 per cent more efficiently than a car with a traditional transmission.
Here’s to Koenigsegg for moving the game forward.
