After nearly seven decades, production of the legendary Land Rover Defender will end today.
The iconic off-roader has been built in largely the same form since 1948 at the company’s Solihull plant in the United Kingdom and will be an all-new model, set to be released in 2017.
Late last year, Land Rover unveiled a one-off Defender dubbed the 2,000,000, which was appropriately the 2 millionth vehicle to be produced.
Complete with a custom shade of silver, unique touches like a map of the Red Wharf Bay and a plethora of 2,000,000 badges and logos , the model managed to fetch 400,000 pounds (around $600,000) at an auction.
This time last year, three special Celebration Series models were also released, named the Adventure Edition, Heritage Edition and Autobiography Edition respectively.
