Approximately 5,000 examples of the all-new 2016 RX350 and RX450h are being recalled in the United States due to an airbag issue.

Fhe driver’s knee airbag module on the affected models may not have been manufactured according to specs. The Japanese luxury brand states this could adversely affected the performance of the airbag and therefore increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

As part of the recall, Lexus will inspect and replace the driver’s knee airbag assembly if necessary free of charge.

While Lexus hasn’t made public the dates the affected models were manufactured, it says that all owners will be notified through first class mail.

The current RX was unveiled at the New York Auto Show last year and features a sportier and more muscular design than its predecessor. Power from the standard RX350 models comes from a naturally-aspirated 3.5-liter V6 with 300 hp, while the RX450h utilizes the same internal combustion engine but draws on an electric motor for additional power.
