Avatar; it’s the highest grossing movie of all time and known for its incredible cinematography and popular story line. – and, as it turns out, is also the name of a small British racing car manufacturer.
UK-based Avatar is the racing division of Marlin Sports Cars and for The Performance Car Show kicking off on January 14, has released a teaser image of its impending sports car, dubbed the Roadster, targeted directly at road and track day enthusiasts.
Britain is known as the home of the world’s best track-day cars including the Ariel Atom and BAC Mono and with the Roadster, Avatar hopes to join that elite group.
In standard guise, power for the Avatar Roadster will come through a 2.0-liter Ford engine located behind the driver. That engine will be coupled with the five-speed gearbox of the Porsche Boxster driving the rear wheels through a Quaife LSD. That engine delivers 252 hp and when combined with a mere 700 kg kerb weight, the entry-level Roadster will hit 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds.
For those looking for even more performance, the Roadster will also be offered with the 350 hp, 2.3-liter EcoBoost of the new Ford Focus RS, just like the Zenos E10 R. This model will also include a six-speed transmission, six piston brake calipers, race pads, semi slick or slick tire options and three-way adjustable dampers.
Underpinning the Avatar Roadster is a tubular spaceframe chassis manufactured by Marlin Sports Cars and to reduce weight further, all the body panels are made from lightweight composite materials.
Avatar claims to have already received four orders for the Roadster and is hoping to deliver the first models in May 2016.
