Alongside achieving a new US sales record, Porsche has announced that 2015 was its most successful year of sales ever.
The previous record stood at 189,849 cars, set in 2014. Last year however, sales rose by 19 per cent to 225,121 particularly thanks to the Porsche Macan in its full year of availability.
In 2015, over 80,000 examples of the Macan found homes around the world taking the crown from the larger Cayenne as the firm’s most popular model. Sales of the Macan’s bigger brother weren’t far behind at 73,119 units with both SUV models enjoying double-digit growth figures over 2014.
Despite entering its 53rd year of production, the popularity of the most iconic of all Porsches, the 911, shows no signs of slowing. As a matter of fact, 911 sales increased by 4 per cent last year to just under 32,000 units globally. Elsewhere in the Porsche range, Cayman sales increased by 1 per cent while Panamera and Boxster deliveries fell slightly. The German company says this is because replacements for the Panamera and Boxster are on the horizon.
In terms of markets, Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Middle East account for the highest amount of Porsche sales, 87,658 in total (20% more than 2014). Next up is Europe with 75,354 sales, the Americas at 62,109, China at 58,009, U.S. at 51,756 cars and Germany at 28,953 sales. The 24 per cent rise in sales across China over 2014 is one of the real takeaways from the automaker’s results.
