Mercedes-AMG’s hottest coupe, the AMG GT S, is not underpowered, but Renntech felt the need to give it extra oomph.
The tuning company that specializes in vehicles with the three-pointed star logo now offers an upgrade package for the already potent 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 engine carried by the AMG GT S, which was reworked in order to squeeze an extra 65+ hp (66PS) and 110+ lb-ft (149Nm).
A total output of 611hp (620PS) and 620lb-ft (841Nm) of torque was achieved by tuning the ECU, improving the intake and exhaust gas flow. The custom-designed exhaust tubing combats engine compartment temperatures, maximizes turbine performance and improves gas flow.
Renntech’s newest upgrade is called the R1 Performance and it was only announced for the Mercedes-AMG GT S, despite the powerful coupe sharing its engine with the C63 too. The package increases performance, though no figures were made public, and claims to not sacrifice daily driver comfort or reliability.
No pricing details of the R1 Performance Package were disclosed.
