Unless Ford completely does a “180” on us, the facelifted version of the current Mondeo is going to look like the recently restyled Fusion they brought to Detroit. But where does that leave the Estate?
Although they are losing ground to SUVs, in Europe station wagons are still popular among those who need extra space and practicality.
The Mondeo Estate, aka as Tournier or Sportbreak (depending on the market) is already a very attractive model. The modified headlights, taillights, bumpers and extra tech will surely make it an even stronger rival to the Passat Variant and the rest of the gang.
It’s a widely populated segment. Passat aside, you’re still looking at the Avensis Touring, Superb Combi, 508 SW, C5 Tourer, Insignia Sports Tourer, Mazda6 Wagon, i40 CrossWagon, and of course the new Renault Talisman Sport Tourer.
The Passat, Superb and Talisman should all prove formidable rivals as far as the Mondeo’s chances are concerned, though Ford probably isn’t all that worried considering how far they’ve brought their mid-sized car along in terms of efficiency and on-board tech.
As for the looks, feel free to judge for yourselves. All we can say is that these drawings obviously depict a top spec sporty version and look pretty darn realistic.
