VW’s BUDD-e Concept nabbed the ‘Best Innovation’ award from web magazine Engadget at this year’s CES for its highly efficient battery that can be charged up to 80 percent in 15 to 30 minutes.
The futuristic-looking microbus turned out to be more popular than the other two finalists in the category, which included the Intel / Yuneec Typhoon RealSense add-on, a drone solution from Yuneec and Intel that can use the 3D Realsense camera to avoid obstacles, and the Ehang 184, a “quadcopter” (drone/helicopter) with room for one passenger and the ability to be programmed to autonomously fly you away.
VW’s BUDD-e Concept took top honors thanks to its range and rapid charge capabilities, with its batteries offering an estimated pure electric range of 233miles (533km) on the EPA driving cycle.
The study also showcases the MEB (Modular Electric Toolkit) platform and offers a glimpse into the next-generation of e-mobility, infotainment and connectivity innovations, human-machine interface functions, gesture control and others features.
