Order books for the Golf GTI Clubsport have just opened in Germany and the most driver-focused GTI, as VW labels it, is finally available to customers.

Priced at €36,350, it fills the gap between the Golf GTI and the all-wheel drive Golf R. The Clubsport, comes with more power than the Performance edition and an extended front splitter and a roof-mounted rear spoiler that produce actual downforce for a sportier drive on road and track.

The German automaker presented the model last year to mark the Golf GTI’s 40th anniversary. It gets its drive from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder delivering 261 hp which can soar to 286 hp for about 10 seconds thanks to an overboost function. When optioned with the DSG, it’ll hit 100 km/h in a brisk 5.9 seconds, 0.1 seconds faster than the 6-speed manual ‘box.

Beyond its new splitter and rear spoiler, the GTI Clubsport is distinct from the standard GTI thanks to a set of new 18- or 19-inch forged alloy wheels, a revised front bumper, new side sills and black trim between the front and rear wheels.
