Another model year, another special package from Ford, which this time, has prepped the XLT Sport appearance kit for its 2017 Explorer SUV.
To be displayed for the first time in public at this week’s 2016 Chicago Auto Show, the package builds on the existing mid-level XLT trim adding some visual flair both inside and out, as the Blue Oval believes that’s what buyers are looking for in SUVs these days.
“Our Sport Appearance philosophy is rooted in the fact that we know exterior appearance is the No. 1 consideration in SUV purchase decisions,” said Omar Odeh, Explorer brand marketing manager. “The XLT Sport Appearance Package is a dramatic offering that gives customers another attractive option.”
On the exterior, the XLT Sport kit endows the Explorer with ‘Magnetic Gray’ colored 20-inch alloys, grille, mirror caps and rear appliqué, together with black body side cladding, roof rack, and an ‘Explorer’ badge splashed across the hood.
In the cabin, it adds a combination of Dark Earth Gray leather and lighter Earth Gray Miko suede for the seats and door trim inserts with contrast stitching, plus bespoke floor mats.
Pricing and availability should be announced at the Chicago Auto Show.
