As prices for Porsche’s last air-cooled 911 continue to sky rocket to previously unheard levels, unused 993 garage queens are coming out in the open to cash in on the demand.
Even with regular mileage for its age, a 1998 Porsche 911 Carrera S with a manual gearbox, plus the desired sport seats and widebody curved flanks, is a much sought after ride, so imagine what happens with the desirability factor, and consequently, the asking price, if it has just 2,987 miles (4,806 kilometers) on the odo.
At the time of the posting, 8 bidders had driven the auction on eBay to $110,000, without meeting the unlisted reserve, which we suspect to be, if not exactly, very close to the asking price of $189,900 on the seller’s website.
And yes, unless you stumble on someone who doesn’t know what they have in their hands, you pretty much lost your chance of easily getting into a 993 at a reasonable price.
Beyond being the last air-cooled 911, the 993-generation model was also the last hand built and the last of the family to retain the diminutive footprint of the original car. It’s also considered by many enthusiasts to be the best looking 911 ever, so it does have plenty of things going for it – unfortunately for those of us who don’t have six- and seven figure bank accounts….
