The time has come for the mainstream versions of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia to be revealed in Geneva.
Following numerous delays, Alfa Romeo is finally ready to lift the veil off the more affordable versions in the Giulia range next week, AutoNews reports.
Alfa Romeo’s BMW 3-Series rival will be shown with an entry-level 2.0-litre petrol engine which will be available in 180hp, 250hp and 330hp versions and a 2.2-litre diesel engine offered in 135hp, 180hp and a range-topping 210hp version.
The diesel engine is not expected to make it in the US model, though. The range is going to be completed with the Quadrifoglio Verde shown earlier, which is powered by a Ferrari-derived twin-turbo V6 with 505hp.
Alfa Romeo’s plan for launching the Giulia has fallen months behind schedule, with some sources suggesting that their new model failed at the internal front, side and rear crash tests which lead to an extensive re-engineering of the platform, something that FCA officials later denied.
The new plan says that the Quadrifoglio Verde and diesel versions are going into production on March 31, with the first cars to arrive at the Italian dealerships by late May or early July. The 2.0-litre petrol models are due by the end of the year in Europe.
Last week, our readers Erik and Jonas Hamann sent us photos of a couple camouflaged mules being tested in Frankfurt, Germany next to the already revealed QV version. We can’t really say if the camouflaged prototypes are indeed the mainstream versions of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia as they appear to be wearing a similar body kit with their big brother, without the rear quad exhausts and bigger wheels.
