Alfa Romeo has hit back at claims that the Giulia has failed

Alfa Romeo has hit back at claims that the Giulia has failed crash tests resulting in its sixth-month delay.

In a report published by Automotive News Europe, it was claimed that the new sedan didn’t pass the marque’s in-house front, side and rear crash tests. The firm apparently rectified this by extensively re-engineering the model, hence its delayed launch.

Road & Track reached out to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles about these claims and was contacted by an Alfa Romeo spokesperson claiming that the report was “not accurate or representative at all”.

The spokesperson went on to say that the Giulia is still on-track to arrive in the U.S. in the 2nd quarter of the year, as the company returns to the U.S.

Initially, the Giulia QV will be the sole variant offered. Thanks to its twin-turbocharged V6 engine delivering 503 hp, it managed to outperform the BMW M4 and Mercedes-AMG C63 in testing by setting a blistering 7:39 lap around the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

If reports are to be believed, a number of different versions will be introduced at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
