Alfa Romeo has been sweet-talking us about its SUV for a very long time now, and just as we began losing hope, the car maker seems to have came up with a name for the upcoming automobile.

Yes, believe it or not, the Alfa SUV/Crossover is rumored to finally make its official debut by the end of 2016, it will be named Stelvio, and it will arrive in dealerships next year – as L’inchiesta reports.

According to the Italian magazine, Sergio Marichionne himself confirmed the moniker; not only that, but the CEO also guaranteed that the Giulia will start production in March 15. Anyway, the SUV is obviously named after one of the best driving roads in the world: The Stelvio Pass – the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps and a slice of automotive heaven.

You might be wondering why the Italian car maker decided to name its crossover SUV after one of the best driving roads in the world, considering that a sport utility vehicle doesn’t always get associated with the concept of “driving pleasure”. Well, Alfa Romeo did say that its SUV will be competent on-road, and the Stelvio name could very well emphasize its (future) sporty abilities.

Knowing that it will be built at the same Cassino plant as the Giulia, the crossover is believed to share its underpinnings with the Alfa’s sports saloon, including the all-wheel-drive system and the engine options.
